Welcome to Introduction to the Racquet Sports Industry.
As a student in Hope College’s Racquet Sports Management program, you are entering a large, growing, and surprisingly diverse industry.
Racquet sports include much more than teaching tennis lessons or coaching players.
The industry includes private clubs, public facilities, resorts, professional tours, national governing bodies, equipment companies, technology platforms, tournaments, college programs, coaching organizations, and rapidly growing sports such as pickleball and padel.
Each part of the industry creates different opportunities for people who are knowledgeable, professional, and prepared to lead.
Throughout this course, you will learn how the different parts of the racquet sports industry work together. You will be introduced to the major organizations, employers, facilities, professional associations, rating systems, and career paths that shape the industry.
The goal is not simply to memorize names and facts, but to help you understand where you might fit within the industry and how you can begin preparing for a successful career.
Whether you eventually become a coach, director, club manager, tournament administrator, equipment specialist, business owner, or industry executive, this course will give you the foundation you need to understand better the profession you are entering.
The racquet sports industry is built on relationships, service, leadership, and a passion for helping others enjoy the game.
