If you look at the best players in the world, you will see plenty of variation on the types of forehands they use.
This post and video break down one of the most important shots in tennis, the forehand, and explore the different types of players use to gain an advantage on the court.
Too often, players think of the forehand as just “one shot.”
But in reality, there are multiple variations, each designed for a specific situation.
Think of it this way…
You have your main forehand, let’s call it your Drive.
Then you also need secondary forehands, including:
-
Slice Forehand – used to throw your opponent’s rhythm off.
-
Lob Forehand – used to back an opponent off the net
-
Drop Forehand – used to bring an opponent to the net.
-
Loop Forehand – used to back your opponent off the baseline.
-
Heavy Topspin Forehand – used to increase safety margins while pressing your opponent.
-
Dipping Roller Forehand – used when passing an opponent who is at the net.
